Cabezón

Woven Fiber Art: The Beginning - Cabezón

Cabezón is my first handwoven artwork, a tapestry created on a Navajo style frame loom. This project was my introduction to weaving as an undergrad.
It represents much of what I cherish about the years I spent in New Mexico, the Land of Enchantment. Rich desert colors, endless vistas of mountains, mesas, and arroyos undulating under delicate clouds in the bluest sky.

Money Bags: Dirty Money

Dirty Money
is part of my Money Bags series. In it, I am exploring the use of language as it relates to money. I have taken the tradition of weaving a step beyond the predictable into a radical format. Often these tapestries poke fun at our common expressions or raise questions relating to social values. What do you think?

Dirty Money is handwoven from black plastic trash bags and shredded US currency, (and cotton yarn). It measures 16″ x 28″ and is featured in Art in Craft Media 2011 at the Burchfield Penney Art Center www.burchfieldpenney.org. The show opens October 15, 2011 and continues through January 2012.

New Fiber Art by Pamela Palma

Money Bags - Shopping is a Pleasure - Pamela Palma

Welcome to my world of fiber art!

Each week I will be featuring a new, exciting work of art I have created on my floor loom with non-traditional materials.

This week’s feature is part of the series I call Money Bags. This is entitled Shopping is a Pleasure. For those of you who live in Florida, you will recognize that phrase which I borrowed from Publix Super Markets. The tapestry incorporated slices of Publix grocery bags, hand dyed cotton yarn, and shredded US Currency.

It measures 16″ x 16″ framed, and like all work from my design studio it is one-of-a-kind. It can be yours for $1250.00.
