Money, $$$$$$$$, money! How do we value our money? A close examination of the nontraditional tapestries featured in Buy Me Love, the first round of shows in TRIAD, reveals the subtle and overt references to money interwoven in common language, expressed as mixed media fiber art by Pamela Palma.

These artworks are part of the three-woman exhibition entitled TRIAD, at Valmar Art, 4150 SW 74th Court, Miami, in the Bird Road Art District. Each month TRIAD will feature one of three Miami artists: Pamela Palma’s show, Buy Me Love, opens May 19 – June 15; Karen Deilke’s paintings in Hot Tropics, opens June 16 – July 18; and paintings by Debra Cortese, “Seeds of Intention,” opens July 21 – August 15.

Opening nights coincide with Bird Road Art District Gallery Walks. Plenty of free parking, free trolley transportation around the district, and of course, wine and hors d’oeuvres. Bring friends, bring your check book and Buy Me Love!

9/11 Never Forget by Pamela Palma

click image to enlarge9/11 Never Forget is on view May 11, 2012 – August 26, 2012  at the BURCHFIELD PENNEY ART CENTER EXHIBITION: THE ARTISTS AMONG US ll Buffalo, New York

Hand Woven Mixed Media Tapestry by Pamela Palma

9/11 Never Forget was conceived shortly after the horrific event of that day. It was my way to artistically express my feelings and to honor all who suffered when the towers fell. The work presented many layers of difficulty both in its execution and for me emotionally. It lay unfinished in my studio until 2011, gone but not forgotten, like the towers themselves. Time and distance made it easier to handle. I was able to complete the tapestry for the 10th anniversary but the work still evokes strong emotions.

9/11 Never Forget is a reminder of what the towers represented – America, We the People, our freedoms and responsibilities, corporate power, money –  expressed as an intricate design, woven and painted by hand, a powerful work of art.

Hand Woven Mixed Media Fiber: US Currency (one-hundred dollar bills, shredded), cotton yarns, torn and slit strips of silk fabrics, hand painted kid skin leather.

Date of Work: August, 2011                 Size: 30” high by 19”wide                    Price $2,500.00
